About the Area

Bicheno, a traditional Tasmanian crayfishing port, is now also a village cheerfully devoted to offering visitors from all over the world a sunny and warm east coast welcome. In and around Bicheno, the range of wilderness, country, and ocean-based holiday experiences – adventurous or happily indulgent - are unlimited.

Base yourself at Beach Path House and enjoy surfing, swimming, sea-kayaking, power boating, swimming, and sea and fresh-water fishing. Bring your golf clubs and play nine holes at Bicheno Golf Club, a course adjacent to the water and set amongst striking native trees. Hit a tennis ball at the court-for-hire sited above beautiful Waubs Bay then take a seaside stroll - or take on a graded bushwalk at Freycinet National Park, or Doug Apsley National Park, both only a twenty minute drive away. Boat launching facilities are also easily accessed.

For Scuba divers, the Bicheno Dive Centre offers a wide-ranging service to the advanced diver or lessons for the beginner. Dive boats operate daily. For kids and adults who want to get up close and personal with the local wildlife there are penguin tours, a native fauna wildlife park, and the Sea Life Centre in Bicheno has a spectacular exhibition of live Tasmanian marine life including fish, seahorses, sea shells, and a touch pool for children to safely experience many underwater citizens first-hand.

Bicheno town centre, set just above beautiful Waubs Bay and sheltered by surrounding forested hills, has a great selection of cafes and restaurants, a bakery, hotels, supermarket, news agency and post office. Services such as banking and Internet access are readily available; the shopping hub also offering everything from surf and fishing equipment to pharmaceutical requirements, a general store and hardware.
